By using laundry disinfectants, you can reduce the washing temperature of your washing machine, saving energy and achieving good results. If the detergent bottle is lined with a label, remove it when empty and recycle it separately.

SUSTAINABLE USE

Laundry detergents for daily use

Choose products that have the Charter for Sustainability seal on their label, as this indicates that you are choosing a product that meets strict sustainability criteria. The greatest environmental impact of detergents occurs when they are used, due to the energy required to heat the water. So think about choosing a lower temperature.

Follow the sustainable use tips on the packaging for a positive impact on the environment. Dosing according to dirt and water hardness: follow the dosing instructions. Wash your whites separately if you want to keep them bright. Do not mix white and coloured garments.

Avoid washing pastel-coloured garments with a laundry detergent containing optical brighteners: this may cause the colours to fade. Instead, use a detergent for coloured clothes. Wash coloured clothes inside out to minimise discolouration and wear due to rubbing against each other and against the drum.

Where available, use compact or concentrated products as they allow you to use lower doses, which saves product and reduces packaging waste. Choose a special detergent for dark or black clothes if you are concerned that dark clothes will dull over time.

Wash at the lowest recommended temperature, as this saves energy without compromising performance or washing efficiency. Ensure the hygiene of your washing machine by using a solid detergent containing bleach at a higher temperature (e.g. 60 °C) once a week. Wash at the lowest recommended temperature to save energy. However, if someone is ill at home, wash clothes with a solid detergent containing bleach at a higher temperature (e.g. 60°C).

Glass cleaners

You can use glass cleaner to clean all types of glass surfaces, not just windows and mirrors.

If you are cleaning the glass of a picture frame, spray the cleaner on the cloth, not on the glass, to prevent it from seeping between the glass and the frame and damaging the photograph.

Be careful with PC monitors: they often have special surfaces that can be damaged by some cleaning products. If the detergent bottle is lined with a label, remove it when empty and recycle it separately.

Bathroom cleaners

Read the label to make sure the product is suitable for the surface you wish to clean. With frequent use, disinfectants keep surfaces in perfect hygienic conditions.

Not all bathroom cleaners are good for all types of surfaces. For example, acidic cleaners can damage marble and old enamel surfaces.

Look for specialised products to help you solve specific bathroom cleaning problems. There are specific products for mould in the shower, rust and scale deposits or drains that need to be cleaned.

Frequent cleaning helps prevent the build-up of dirt and scale. Use the recommended amount of the product and always read the instructions on the label. If the detergent bottle is lined with a label, remove it when empty and recycle it separately.

Kitchen cleaners

Always read the label first to make sure the product is suitable for the surface you intend to use it on.

For specific surfaces or cleaning problems, there are specialised products that can help, including abrasive cleaners and descalers.

Clean surfaces that have been in contact with raw meat, poultry or fish to prevent the spread of potentially harmful bacteria.

You may prefer to use a cleaner with additional antimicrobial agents for better protection. If the detergent bottle is lined with a label, remove it when empty and recycle it separately.

Multi-purpose cleaners

Choose products that have the Charter for Sustainability seal on their label, as this indicates that you are choosing a product that meets strict sustainability criteria.

Multi-purpose cleaners can be used on many surfaces but there are some for which they are not suitable, so always read the label first.

Clean the indicated surfaces after they have been in contact with raw meat, poultry and fish to avoid cross-contamination with harmful bacteria.

You may prefer to use a cleaner with additional antimicrobial agents (a disinfectant) for added protection where there is a risk of infection.

Most multi-purpose cleaners do not require hot water to work well. Use warm or even cold water to save energy, reduce your carbon footprint and still get excellent cleaning results. Use the recommended amount of product and always follow the instructions for use.

SUSTAINABLE USE

Floor cleaners

Choose products that have the Charter for Sustainability seal on their label, as this indicates that you are choosing a product that meets strict sustainability criteria.

How you apply the floor cleaner may depend on the type of floor surface. Read the instructions on the label. Generally, you will apply floor cleaners diluted in warm water. Some products can be applied undiluted to give a glossy finish. In that case, you should frequently remove and reapply this glossy coating.

Parquet cleaners remove dirt and grease from wooden floors and similar materials. Make sure the cloth is damp but not wet, as too much moisture can damage the parquet floor. Parquet cleaners can be diluted in warm water and used undiluted to generate a self-shining coating.

This coating helps ensure a clean floor for longer and reduces the risk of surface damage. The self-shining coating should be removed and reapplied frequently.

Stone cleaners remove dirt and grease from floors made of stone and similar materials and most are applied diluted in warm water. When used undiluted, some stone cleaners can be used to obtain a self-shining coating. Frequent use of stone cleaners also helps ensure that your floors stay as clean as possible for as long as possible.

Laminate cleaners remove dirt and grease from floors made of laminate and similar materials. Once dry, they provide long-lasting protection against new stains. To remove heavy soiling, as well as old wax layers, use a ready-to-use pretreatment available in stores. Laminate cleaners should only be applied to floors after dilution with warm water. Make sure the cloth is damp but not wet, as too much moisture can damage the laminate floor!

Frequent application of laminate cleaners helps to keep your floor cleaner for a longer period of time.

Wood cleaning products help you safely remove stains from all types of wood surfaces, while allowing you to polish and protect your wood floors and furniture.

To keep wood floors, surfaces and furniture in good condition, avoid direct exposure to the sun, which causes the natural colour of wood to fade and accelerates the ageing of this material. Install curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight and use coasters to protect wood surfaces from water marks.

SAFE USE

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • Do not ingest. If ingested, see a doctor immediately.

Stain Removers

Apply the product only when necessary. Follow label instructions for best results.

Look at the fabric care symbol for bleaching. If bleaching is not recommended (crossed triangle), be very careful before pre-washing: try it first in a hidden area.

Keep the clothing care instruction labels so that you can follow them. The label tells you the best way to care for each garment. clevercare.eu is an easy guide to understanding these symbols.

Laundry soap bars work well on many types of stains and are good for pre-washing tough stains. They can be especially useful when travelling.
